On Thursday, November 17, the General Council of the International Trade Union Confederation decided to restore the membership of the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Kazakhstan. This was reported by the Chairman of the FTUC Satybaldy Dauletalin on his Facebook page.
Let’s remind, the delegation of the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Kazakhstan headed by the Chairman is in Melbourne, Australia, where it takes part in the V Congress of the International Confederation of Trade Unions.
“Currently a meeting of the General Council of the ITUC is taking place. The membership of the Federation of Trade Unions in the International Trade Union Confederation has just been considered. A decision has been made to restore the membership of the Federation of Trade Unions in the ITUC! But it is important that legislative reforms to ensure freedom of association in the country are implemented,” said Satybaldy Dauletalin.
From 17 to 22 November 2022, delegates from over 300 national union centers will discuss the agenda for World Trade Union Day for the next four years.
The participants of the Congress intend to adopt the Statement “New Social Contract”, which will provide recommendations for maintaining stability in the participating countries. According to the draft Statement, the discussion will focus on the theme of the new social contract: green jobs, workers’ rights, fair wages, social protection, equality and inclusiveness.
“The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has wiped out more than 250 million jobs worldwide and exacerbated underemployment in many countries. Even before the pandemic, governments showed little commitment to full employment as a central policy goal. In order to achieve full employment, it is necessary to create 575 million new jobs,” the draft Statement says.
Note that the International Confederation of Trade Unions is the world’s largest trade union association, which includes 176 million people from 161 countries. In 2018, the membership of the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the ITUC was suspended.
