History

The trade union movement of Kazakhstan originates in the early of the XX century.

On October 10, 1990 at the 14th Congress of trade unions of Kazakhstan the Declaration of establishment of Federation of Trade unions of Kazakh SSR, the successor of Kazsovprof, was adopted.

The Federation proclaimed its independence from the public authorities, employers, political parties. Consolidation of activities of trade unions, representation and protection of the social and economic, labor rights and liberty of trade unions were fixed as the main objectives of the Federation.

Sectoral trade unions and the territorial associations are the founders and the members of the Federation.

On 3 March 1992 made a resolution to rename of Federation of Trade unions of Kazakh SSR to the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

At present national trade union association «Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Kazakhstan» is noncommercial organization, joins sectoral trade unions and territorial trade union associations.

The supreme body of the Federation is a Congress, which is convened by the General Council of the Federation at least once every five years.

Governing body of the Federation is the General Council of the Federation.

Collective executive body is the Executive Committee of the Federation.

One of the major functions of FTURK is its participation on social partnership, in activity of the Republican tripartite commission of social partnership and regulation of social and economic, and labor relations.

The representatives of Federation of Trade Unions sign the General Agreement with the Government and associations of employers.
