UN experts familiarized themselves with the activities of the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Kazakhstan

Issues of cooperation between the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Kazakhstan with the structures of the United Nations discussed at the meeting, Deputy Chairman of the FTURK Gulnara Zhumageldieva and a group of UN experts led by the international team leader Rastislav Vrbensky.

Gulnara Zhumageldieva noted that the Federation of Trade Unions carries out productive cooperation with the UN structures and actively works to promote the Sustainable Development Goals in the country.

During the negotiations, the parties also exchanged views on a wide range of issues related to the labor situation in Kazakhstan, the activities of the Federation of Trade Unions on the development of social partnership, international dialogue and measures to improve the socio-economic situation of workers in the country.

Deputy Chairman of the FTURK shared information on the Federation’s initiatives to increase the minimum wage, improve the system of labor protection, gender equality, active work to improve legislation taking into account international labor standards, etc.

Rastislav Vrbensky, after listening to the information, expressed appreciation for the work of trade unions in protecting workers’ rights, improving working conditions and promoting social justice. The expert also noted the effectiveness of dialogue between the social partners of Kazakhstan in addressing important issues of labor relations.

He said that the UN Country Team is conducting an independent evaluation of the implementation of the UN Framework for Cooperation for Development of the fundamental framework agreement between the Government of Kazakhstan and the United Nations, which defines the goals and principles of the UN partnership with the Government from 2021 to 2025.

“The evaluation is a global requirement for all UN country teams and aims to assess whether the work of the United Nations in Kazakhstan was relevant and in line with national priorities, as well as whether it was effective, efficient, coherent and led to sustainable development results in the country,” Rastislav Vrbensky clarified the purpose of the visit.

The UN experts emphasized the importance of taking into account the opinion of trade unions in the comprehensive assessment of the country’s socio-economic development. They assured that all suggestions and recommendations will be thoroughly analyzed and taken into account in the final report.
