Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Kazakhstan Joins the ITUC General Council

The Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Satybaldy Dauletalin, has been unanimously elected as a member of the General Council of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC).

This decision was made on December 5 during the 35th meeting of the ITUC General Council in Brazil. In addition to addressing pressing global labor issues, the meeting featured the election of new leadership positions within the global trade union structure.

Satybaldy Dauletalin’s full membership in the ITUC General Council reflects the Federation of Trade Unions of Kazakhstan’s contributions to protecting workers’ rights both nationally and internationally. It also highlights the growing influence and credibility of Kazakhstan’s trade unions in the global labor movement.

Notably, a year ago, Dauletalin was elected Vice President of the ITUC Pan-European Regional Council (PERC), which includes 90 national trade union centers.

His election to the ITUC General Council underscores the steady progress of the Federation of Trade Unions of Kazakhstan in strengthening its international presence and influence.

Additionally, the meeting confirmed Sahib Mammadov, Chairman of the Confederation of Trade Unions of Azerbaijan, as ITUC Vice President.

The Federation of Trade Unions of Uzbekistan’s application for ITUC membership was also reviewed and supported by the meeting’s participants.

The meeting focused on discussing critical issues facing the international trade union community. ITUC President Akiko Gono emphasized the importance of the discussions in shaping an effective strategy in a rapidly changing global landscape.

ITUC General Secretary Luc Triangle presented a detailed report on the organization’s activities over the past period, stressing the need for collective action to achieve social justice and safeguard workers’ rights.

Brazil’s Minister of Labor, Luiz Marinho, highlighted pressing global challenges such as the growing impact of artificial intelligence and algorithms on workers’ rights, the need for climate action, and ensuring fair taxation. He also noted Brazil’s significant achievements in job creation, ensuring equal pay, and raising the minimum wage.

The General Council meeting concluded with the adoption of the 2025 work plan and discussions on preparations for the 7th ITUC Congress, scheduled to take place in Austria in November 2027. Participants stressed that this event would be a critical milestone in setting the organization’s future strategic goals and enhancing its role in protecting workers’ rights and interests worldwide.
