On Tuesday, January 21, the seminar “Nagyz Aru – Real Woman”, organized by the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Kazakhstan in collaboration with the International Labour Organization, continued with several thematic sessions.
During the seminar, Yana Lukpanova, Senior Researcher at the Department of History and Archaeology of the Ural Museum-Reserve “Zhaiyk”, shared her experience working in the field of archaeology.
She began her speech by expressing gratitude to the Federation of Trade Unions for its special attention to issues concerning working women.
She also shared her impressions of the First Forum of Working Women, organized by the Federation in April last year, where she participated as a delegate.
“We, the forum delegates, were deeply impressed by its scale, the depth of the discussions, and the high level of organization. It was especially gratifying that all participants were surrounded by the care and attention of the organizers,” Lukpanova emphasized.
In her speech, she spoke about her professional achievements and the specifics of her work. She also shared her observations on the role of women in the history of the nation, dating back to the early nomadic periods.
Yana Lukpanova is an archaeologist-researcher, who is rightfully called the “godmother” of Altyn-Khanshayym (the Taksai Princess), whose burial site was excavated in 2012. This discovery unveiled secrets of history dating back to the 6th–5th centuries BCE.
“Among the artifacts we found were several unique items: a comb depicting a battle scene between the Persians and Sarmatians, a golden headpiece—discovered in Kazakhstan for the first time—dating the find to the era of the Saka people. Every discovery reshapes history. Our ancestors were not barbarians; in their time, a structured civilization already existed, including medicine, trade, and industrial craftsmanship,” the speaker told the seminar participants.
She also addressed women’s achievements in science, breaking stereotypes, and balancing professional responsibilities with family life.
A masterclass on labor dispute prevention and the secrets of trade union leadership was presented to the seminar participants by Lyazzat Eszhanova, Deputy Director of the Organizational and Control Department of FTURK, author and coordinator of educational projects of the Federation of Trade Unions. The speaker emphasized the key role of trade unions in ensuring social justice.
“The primary task of trade unions is to ensure social justice in labor relations, with the protection of workers’ rights and interests as the most critical factor,” said the lecturer.
She stressed the importance of preventing labor disputes, noting that every trade union leader should be aware of the situation at their workplace.
Lyazzat Eszhanova presented a dispute resolution algorithm based on the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, detailing the entire procedure, including deadlines for filing and reviewing complaints, the stages of the conciliation commission and labor arbitration, as well as the judicial process.
The seminar participants actively engaged with real-world case studies in group work, developing their own proposals for effective dispute resolution. This hands-on experience allowed them to deeply understand the presented methods and enhance their teamwork skills in solving complex issues.
The session concluded with a Q&A segment, where the speaker helped participants analyze the most common scenarios in trade union activities.
At the end of the second seminar day, participants noted the intense and informative nature of the program. Tomorrow, on January 22, the final sessions will take place, including personal presentations from the seminar participants.
