On the sidelines of the 114th Session of the International Labour Conference (ILC) of the International Labour Organization (ILO) in Geneva, the delegation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, headed by Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Kazakhstan (FTURK) Satybaldy Dauletalin, held a number of bilateral meetings with international trade union leaders and ILO representatives, and also participated in a meeting in the “ILO + Central Asia” format.

Particular attention was given to the meeting between FTURK Chairman Satybaldy Dauletalin and Beate Andrees, ILO Deputy Director-General for Regional Affairs and Director of the Office of the Director-General. Discussions focused on prospects for strengthening cooperation between the International Labour Organization and national trade union centres in the region. The parties reviewed a common agenda aimed at preventing the negative impact of current challenges on labour markets, ensuring decent employment, and protecting workers’ rights in the context of the digital transformation of the economy.

Sergejus Glovackas, Head of the Europe and Central Asia Unit of the Bureau for Workers’ Activities of the International Labour Organization (ILO/ACTRAV), who participated in the meeting of the ILO and trade union centres from Central Asia and Azerbaijan, noted the steady development of cooperation with national trade union centres in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Mongolia and Azerbaijan. The participants discussed issues related to expanding regional cooperation and strengthening trade union solidarity. Particular attention was given to consolidating the efforts of trade unions across the region, exchanging best practices in protecting workers’ social and labour rights, and developing joint approaches to addressing contemporary challenges in the world of work.

During a meeting between FTURK Chairman Satybaldy Dauletalin and Anton Leppik, Executive Secretary of the Pan-European Regional Council (PERC) of the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC), the parties discussed current issues concerning the further development of cooperation within the framework of the International Trade Union Confederation and the Pan-European Regional Council.

As part of his participation in the International Labour Conference, FTURK Chairman Satybaldy Dauletalin also met with Ergün Atalay, President of the Turkish Confederation of Trade Unions (TÜRK-İŞ). The parties discussed key issues on the international trade union agenda and reviewed the implementation of the Action Plan of the Trade Union Organization of Turkic States. The trade union leaders emphasized the importance of strengthening regional cooperation and coordinating the activities of trade union organizations in promoting the principles of decent work, social justice and sustainable development.

During a meeting between the Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Kazakhstan and Mahmut Arslan, President of the Confederation of Turkish Trade Unions (HAK-İŞ), the trade union leaders exchanged views on measures to protect workers’ social and labour rights and reaffirmed their commitment to further developing partnership relations.

FTURK Chairman Satybaldy Dauletalin also met with Ryo Saito, Executive Secretary of the Japanese Trade Union Confederation (RENGO). Cooperation between the Federation of Trade Unions of Kazakhstan and RENGO has been developing steadily, and several joint projects have been implemented since 2019. The parties discussed the development of international trade union cooperation, strengthening social dialogue, protecting workers’ rights, and improving mechanisms of interaction between trade unions in the face of contemporary socio-economic challenges. The parties agreed to further strengthen cooperation across all areas of the trade union agenda.

The meetings confirmed the high level of international engagement of the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Kazakhstan and its active role in promoting the interests of Kazakhstani workers at the international level.
