During a working visit to the Aktobe region, the Chairman of the FPRK Yeraly Tugzhanov met with employees of the Aktobe ferroalloy plant of JSC TNK Kazchrome.
Since mid-2019, the enterprise has successfully implemented the People’s Control trade union pilot project, aimed at achieving zero mortality and injuries in the workplace.
The project involves 16 full-time “people’s controllers” from among former employees of the enterprise who have received disabilities. Compliance with safety regulations is monitored by “people’s controllers” through video surveillance cameras.
Trade unions, together with the Office for Labor Inspection of the Aktobe region, carry out outreach to promote this project at large and medium-sized enterprises in the region.
According to the People’s Comptroller Beibit Nurtayev, since the start of the project, the enterprise has noted a significant decrease in safety violations.
According to him, if in August of this year 380 violations of labor safety rules were recorded, then in November this indicator halved.
In the whole region for 11 months of this year 68 people were injured in the production, 11 of whom died.
“There can be no higher values than human life and health. Each case of injuries in the workplace should be considered by the trade unions as a serious emergency, ”the FPRK Chairman emphasized after reviewing the results of the project.
Yeraly Tugzhanov noted the effectiveness of the People’s Control pilot and the need to disseminate this experience to all enterprises with dangerous working conditions.
The Aktobe Ferroalloy Plant employs 4,400 people, all of them are union members. Since 2016, the company has a collective agreement. In 2017, the Production Council was created. All problematic issues of the plant employees are resolved together with the employer in the framework of social partnership.
