FEDERATION OF TRADE UNIONS OF THE REPUBLIC OF KAZAKHSTAN LAUNCHED AN INITIATIVE TO SUPPORT THE COMPETITIVENESS OF THE DOMESTIC PRODUCER AND SUPPORT EMPLOYMENT OF THE POPULATION

The Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Kazakhstan has applied to the Government for state support to the only domestic goods producer producing railway equipment – JSC «Petropavlovsk Heavy Machine Building Plant».

PHMBP is one of the largest domestic machine-building enterprises in the country, employing about 900 workers. The management of the plant conscientiously fulfils social obligations to the employees.

«During the emergency period some of the engineers and technicians have been transferred to a remote form of work, the rest of the employees work in the regular mode, with the salary paid in full», – is indicated in the application of the FPK.

However, trade unions are concerned about the threat of massive job losses in the enterprise in the event of production shutdowns caused by declining product demand. The main consumer of the products – JSC «NK «Kazakstan thai zholla» makes purchases of similar products in Russian companies whose prices are significantly lower.

FPRK noted that under the current conditions of tenge devaluation, rising commodity prices and logistics costs, it has become difficult for a domestic producer to compete with other producers to reduce prices in order to retain markets.

In order to preserve production, jobs and social stability, the Federation of Trade Unions called on the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan to provide State support for the procurement of domestic enterprises.
