SATYBALDY DAULETALIN: “THE COMMON GOAL OF TRADE UNIONS OF THE WORLD IS TO ENSURE DECENT WORK AND PROTECTION OF WORKERS’ LABOR RIGHTS”

Today in Baku, the Secretary General of the Council of Trade Unions of Central Asian countries – Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Kazakhstan Satybaldy Dauletalin represented Kazakhstan at the Jubilee Conference dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Confederation of Trade Unions of Azerbaijan with the participation of experts from the International Labor Organization and representatives of partners – the National Trade Union Centers of a dozen countries.

Welcoming the participants of the Conference, Satybaldy Dauletalin congratulated his colleagues on the anniversary of the formation of the Confederation of Trade Unions of Azerbaijan and stressed the importance of strengthening partnership and friendly relations between peoples.

“Azerbaijan is a brotherly country for us, and the Azerbaijan Trade Union Confederation is our important partner in the international trade union movement. Over the years of independence, the Confederation of Trade Unions of Azerbaijan has made an invaluable contribution to creating conditions that ensure a decent life and free development of a person, increasing the income of the population. Relations between the Kazakh and Azerbaijani peoples have a long history. Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan are united not only by economic interests, but also by rich cultural and historical ties, based largely on common Turkic roots. For both countries, this is an important element of foreign and domestic policy, which makes it possible to emphasize ethno-cultural kinship and spiritual closeness. We are ready to work hand in hand to achieve success together, always keeping in mind the common goal of the trade unions of the world – to ensure decent work and protect the labor rights of workers,” said the Chairman of the FPRK.

Satybaldy Dauletalin noted that the theme of the Conference “Trade unions at the crossroads” is dictated by the difficult task facing trade unions – to effectively represent workers in a rapidly changing world economy.

“Today the world is going through a difficult period. The pandemic continues to cause tangible damage to the global labor market. The threat to security is escalating, and the factors negatively affecting stable development are intensifying. We are facing serious challenges, overcoming which depends on the well-being of all employees and the fate of civilized labor relations. Today, an important task facing trade unions is the comprehensive protection of human rights and the effective expression of their interests in such a volatile and turbulent world economy through the New Social Contract adopted at the V Congress of the International Trade Union Confederation,” said Satybaldy Dauletalin.

Representatives of the National Trade Union Centers of Moldova, Uzbekistan, Turkey and Lithuania shared their vision of the role of trade unions in the further development of labor relations.

The moderator of the Conference, Head of the ILO/ACTRAV Europe and Central Asia Department Sergejus Glovackas, noted that the revival of the role of trade unions in building stable social and labor relations should be expressed in decisive actions of workers’ associations – trade unions promote and shape changes.

The Conference participants noted that they intend to adopt the best practices of partners – the National Trade Union Centers and promote further ratification of the ILO Conventions, as well as jointly implement the main priorities of the New Social Contract of the ITUC.

It should be recalled that the National Trade Union Center of Azerbaijan is an effective partner of the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which strongly supported the restoration of the FPRK membership in the International Trade Union Confederation
