FPRK INITIATIVE ON HOLDING OF THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE INTERNATIONAL LABOUR ORGANIZATION

Specialized events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the International labour organization (ILO) are held all over the world: multilateral meetings, conferences and symposiums are held.

The Republic of Kazakhstan, represented by the Federation of trade unions of Kazakhstan, was one of the first to hold events dedicated to the centenary of this authoritative organization.

Kazakhstan’s events, including those characterized by the fact that national traditions are neatly woven into the overall picture.

So, recently the trade Union center of Karaganda region and the youth Council “KELESHEK” held an event dedicated to the national holiday of Nauryz, in front of the Union of trade unions.

On this bright day, the trade unions together with the cooks prepared and treated everyone to 100 kilograms of baursaks (Kazakh national bread).  The figure “100” was dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the International labour organization. Guests of the city and miners shared their wishes, and cheerful songs strengthened the festive mood.

On the same days, Almaty hosted an international conference dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the ILO “the Role of trade unions in social and labor relations: Dialogue between East and West”, organized by the FPRK.

The International conference included a round table on “trade Unions: theory, practice and new challenges of the time” and a two-day seminar on “Industrial relations, labor and social security”, organized jointly with the Japan international labor Fund JILAF.

In early March, the Federation of trade unions of Kazakhstan sent a letter to the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the need to begin procedural steps to ratify the 5 ILO conventions in accordance with the provisions of the Law “On international treaties of the Republic of Kazakhstan»:

No. 1. Convention 102 on minimum standards of social security.

No. 2. Convention 131 on the establishment of a minimum wage with special regard to developing countries»

No. 3. Convention 154 on the promotion of collective bargaining»

No. 4. Convention 175 “Of the work on conditions of incomplete working time”.

No. 5.Convention 184 on safety and health at work in agriculture.

Not remained without attention and scientific activities. For the first time in many years, the Federation of trade unions of Kazakhstan issued a scientific monograph “trade Unions: theory and practice” dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the ILO. The team of authors is represented by well-known scientists and jurists from Kazakhstan and foreign countries.

Examples of long-term experience of trade unions of OECD member States, as well as the practice of the trade Union movement in the CIS countries, detailed in this work, will help Kazakhstan’s trade unions to effectively represent and defend the legitimate interests of workers, thereby strengthening its authority not only to trade Union members, but also to society as a whole.

The book systematizes the history of the trade Union movement, the concept and functions of trade unions as a social institution, provides an international legal framework for trade unions.

The trade Union newspaper and the FPRK website regularly publish ILO materials on contemporary aspects and trends of the world labour market.

In the near future, the Federation of trade unions of Kazakhstan plans to hold a Scientific and practical conference “Women in the field of labor: gender aspects of labor and employment” and other activities.
