TO ENSURE EQUALITY OF RIGHTS AND OPPORTUNITIES

The National Commission for women and family and demographic policy under the President of Kazakhstan and the Federation of trade unions of Kazakhstan signed a Memorandum of cooperation

A Memorandum on mutual cooperation between the National Commission on women’s Affairs and family and demographic policy under the President of Kazakhstan and the Federation of trade unions of Kazakhstan was signed within the framework of the Scientific and practical conference on “Women in the field of labor: gender aspects of labor and employment”.

The document was signed by Deputy Chairman of the National Commission for women and family and demographic policy under the President of Kazakhstan Elena Tarasenko and Chairman of the Federation of trade unions of the Republic of Kazakhstan Bakytzhan Abdiraiym.

The Memorandum was signed in the light of the implementation of the state policy of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev to ensure the continuity of the strategic course of Elbasy N. Ah. Nazarbayev.

The parties agreed on joint solution of tasks in the field of empowerment of women, improve their economic well-being and gender equality.

Within the framework of the Memorandum, the parties Express their unanimous commitment to jointly address the issues of women’s rights to decent work and social insurance, with special attention to the problems of vulnerable categories of women, including large families, single mothers and mothers with children with disabilities.

The Chairman of FPRK Bakytzhan Abdiraiym noted the desire of the trade Union movement to strengthen the position of women workers.

Today the Federation of trade unions of Kazakhstan unites more than 2 million trade Union members, 65% of them are women.  Of the more than 18,000 primary trade Union organizations, 67 per cent are also headed by women.

It was noted that new approaches have been taken by FPRK to strengthen social security for working women.

“An important step was the consolidation of the obligations of the parties to ensure the rights of women workers, as well as additional benefits and compensation in the General agreement between the Government, the Republican workers’ associations and the Republican employers ‘ associations for 2018-2020,” the head of the FPRK said.

The practice of including special sections on occupational safety and health, vocational training in sectoral and regional agreements and collective agreements is also being introduced.

In her speech, Elena Tarasenko noted the importance of discussing the gender aspect of labor and employment.

“The conference actualizes many issues, but at the same time it puzzles us to fulfill the positions that are defined by the leadership of our country today. Among the main priorities are the issues of comprehensive support for the institution of the family as a top priority of state policy. Women’s employment and the protection of women’s rights and interests at work are particularly important.

Kazakhstan is gradually promoting the interests of women, gender equality and the position of supporting the family. The position of representation of women in representative bodies of power is quite high,” – said Elena Tarasenko.

Deputies of the Parliament of Kazakhstan, representatives of the Ministry of labor and social protection of the population of Kazakhstan, the National center for human rights, trade unions of the country, the National chamber of entrepreneurs “Atameken”, international organizations, as well as prominent scientists and public figures shared their views on the issues of labor rights and social support at the forum.

The participants had a constructive exchange of views and proposals aimed primarily at ensuring decent and safe working conditions for women workers and enhancing their role in the social and political life of the country.
