Today, at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the issue of measures to support candidate Kassym-Jomart Tokayev nominated by the People’s Coalition for the early presidential elections of the Republic of Kazakhstan was considered.
Speaking on the issue under consideration, Deputy Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Kazakhstan Nurlan Uteshev noted the importance of the upcoming presidential elections. He recalled that at the last Solidarity Forum “Unity. Justice. Development” professional leaders supported the nomination of the incumbent President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev. The Forum participants consolidated a single decision in the Resolution “On the actions of the FTURK in the electoral campaign of autumn 2022”, which noted that “the candidacy of Kassym-Jomart Kemelevich Tokayev for the post of President of the country meets the requirements and hopes of the trade union.”
At the same time, Nurlan Uteshev stressed that trade unions in the regions welcomed this decision.
“We will move forward within the framework of the adopted Resolution. Since its adoption, the Federation of Trade Unions has received words of support from both membership and many other public organizations,” he said.
Moreover, according to Nurlan Uteshev, civil society has proposed the entry of the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Kazakhstan into the People’s Coalition.
In order to support a single candidate, the Deputy Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions put to the vote the question of the Federation of Trade Unions joining the People’s Coalition and promoting its activities during the electoral period.
Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Kazakhstan Satybaldy Dauletalin, after hearing the speaker, noted that the position of trade unions to support the candidacy of the incumbent President is aimed primarily at promoting the interests of working citizens.
“It is important that we made this decision collectively at the Solidarity Forum. The main task of trade unions is the joint development of instructions. We support the candidacy of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, but our instructions must be implemented. We should not stay away at this important moment. It is during this period that we must identify all the issues that are relevant in the social and labor sphere today. It is necessary to raise issues of improving the situation of workers, and, moreover, to propose that they be included in the presidential candidate’s program,” Satybaldy Dauletalin said. The Chairman of the Federation set the task of collecting instructions to the candidate from trade union organizations for subsequent generalization and inclusion in the election documents of the candidate for the post of President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions emphasized that it was time for trade unions to clearly declare themselves as a real driving force.
At the same time, the Head of the FTURK outlined the position of the Federation of Trade Unions regarding the candidate nominated from the Amanat Union of Trade Unions.
“From some regions, member organizations of the FTURK, information is received about calls to support a candidate from trade unions. Yes, we have a concept of solidarity, there is a concept of unified actions of trade unions, but representatives of the joint venture “Amanat” did not address us on the issue of cooperation. This issue has not been discussed or worked out at any level. On this issue, the Federation of Trade Unions and its member organizations have decided on a common position and must clearly adhere to the decisions taken collectively and voluntarily,” the Chairman of the FTURK urged.
Following the meeting, the members of the Executive Committee supported the reforms of the current President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, including those aimed at implementing trade union ideas to improve the welfare of Kazakhstanis.
The Executive Committee of the FTURK unanimously supported the initiative of the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Kazakhstan to join the People’s Coalition.
