On November 23, 2022, the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Kazakhstan held a press conference on the actions of the trade union movement during the electoral period.
The speaker of the press conference, Deputy Chairman of the FTURK Nurlan Uteshev, voiced the position of the trade union community on the results of the last elections.
Nurlan Uteshev said that on October 10, the Federation of Trade Unions decided to support the candidacy of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev for the presidential election.
“It was a unanimous decision of all member organizations of the Federation of Trade Unions, adopted at the Solidarity Forum, which was attended by professional leaders of primary trade union organizations, regional trade union centers and industry trade unions of the country. Noting that the steps taken under the leadership of the President indicate his firm desire to improve the standard of living of the people, the participants of the republican trade Union Forum adopted a general Resolution in which they jointly expressed their firm position on supporting the candidacy of the incumbent President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in the upcoming elections,” Nurlan Uteshev said.
According to him, the Executive Committee of the Federation further approved the proposal of the People’s Coalition to join the Federation of Trade Unions.
Based on the decision of the Executive Committee, all member organizations of the FTURK joined the work to support the nomination of Kassym-Jomart Tokayev in the election campaign.
In total, the Federation of Trade Unions held 335 events of various formats with a wide audience coverage.
Speaking about the choice in support of the current President, the Deputy Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions, noted first of all the importance of improving the welfare of Kazakhstanis.
“Why did we make such a choice? It is very important for us that the authorities, represented by the President and the Government, hear the voice of the trade unions, and the problems that we raise reach the authorities as a signal. In each of his speeches, the President speaks about justice. Now the demand for social justice is very high. When talking about problems, we always suggest ways to solve them. And many of them find support from the head of state. This is very significant for us and it is important that the dialogue between the authorities and trade unions develops in a productive way,” Nurlan Uteshev added.
In general, speaking about the past elections, Nurlan Uteshev believes that they were held as openly, legally and fairly as possible.
