COOPERATION BETWEEN THE ITUC AND THE FPRC: A COMMON COURSE TO STRENGTHEN WORKERS’ RIGHTS

Today, the Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Kazakhstan Satybaldy Dauletalin met with the Executive Secretary of the International Confederation of Trade Unions Anton Leppik.

The Chairman of the FPRC thanked the foreign partner for the support provided in restoring the membership of the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the MCP and informed about the current activities of trade unions.

“The minutes of the Board of the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Kazakhstan, held with the participation of the Prime Minister of the country, included our initiative to promote the issue of ratification of the ILO Convention No. 131 “On the establishment of minimum wages with special consideration for developing countries.” We also proposed to raise the status of the Republican Trilateral Commission on Social Partnership, whose decisions should be binding, not advisory,” said Satybaldy Dauletalin.

The Chairman of the FPRC also noted that trade unions are directly involved in the development of the draft law “On Social Partnership in the Republic of Kazakhstan” and are lobbying for its early consideration and adoption.

“The trade union community of Kazakhstan understands that the main tool in achieving social justice is the effective interaction of social partners. Moreover, the demand for social justice is very high in our society,” the Chairman of the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Kazakhstan said.

He called ensuring safe working conditions at enterprises of Kazakhstan the next important priority.

In turn, Anton Leppik, Executive Secretary of the VERS ICP, noted that safety and labor protection are one of the five fundamental rights of workers.

“The topic of labor safety raised by the Federation fits into the agenda of the International Trade Union Confederation. I would like to note that the thematic sessions of the ITUC on security are open to the Federation of Trade Unions of Kazakhstan. Join the campaign “Zero deaths in the workplace”. Your experience will be of interest to foreign partners,” Anton Leppik urged.

The representative of the ITUC also expressed support for the desire of the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Kazakhstan to give a new impetus to the integration processes in the trade union movement, both within the framework of the ITUC and as part of the Council of Trade Unions of Central Asian countries.

In addition, according to Anton Leppik, the ITUC will assist the Federation of Trade Unions in establishing contacts with the Trade Union Advisory Committee of the OECD countries.

On Friday, Anton Leppik, Executive Secretary of the WERS MKP, will take part in the Forum of Social Partners of the Federation of Trade Unions of the Republic of Kazakhstan, where he will present the agenda and priorities of the international trade union movement in promoting the New Social Contract adopted at the V Congress of the International Trade Union Confederation in Melbourne.
